Was this project a fundraiser? Yes
Description of project This planning of this event started in February 2014 and finished Nov.15, 2014. We contacted some of the communities who had done this before for advice. Sponsorships were a huge priority for us and assistance from our other kin clubs in our community. We worked very closely with the Alumni team, rink, hotel, St. John's Ambulance and our Cystic Fibrosis Chapter to ensure that we had everything in order.
Service Hours 100+
Did you leverage this project as a way to recruit new members? Yes
If you answered yes to the question above, please explain: We had representation from all of our clubs in our community. When the interviews were done we not only promoted the event but also our club. We had our club signage at the event and information about our club.
How was this project promoted in your community? We promoted the event on facebook, posters hung up throughout the community, radio and television interviews, on our club website, district website, sponsor's websites and Cystic Fibrosis Chapter's newsletter and email distribution. Most importantly it was promoted through our club to family, friend's and co-workers.
What were some challenges you faced with this project, and how could your project be improved? Some of the challenges we faced and what we could improve for next time are: more members on the committee, start advertising the event earlier, promote ticket sales at the door, additional prize for the VIP's and coordinate the media a bit better at the actual event.
What was the approximate budget for this project? $15,000+
If the project was a fundraiser, what were the sources of revenue for this project? sponsorships: 4 different levels, program ads, assistant coach of the alumni team, live the dream to play with the alumni team, players and referees for the hometown team, 50-50 draw, silent auction and of course ticket sales.
If this was a fundraiser, how much money was raised (minus expenses)? $10,000+
What were the expenses for this project? jerseys and socks for the hometown team and printing of tickets, posters and programs (gift in kind), alumni team, autographed canadien's jersey, rink rental, hotel rooms, insurance, food and drinks for the dressing room, towels, permanent markers.
Is there anything else you would like to share that would assist another club in duplicating this project in their community? This was a great fundraiser we could never have done this without our wonderful sponsors, assistance from the Kinsmen, K-40 and U of R kin club. The Alumni team were great to work with and I would recommend this event to other clubs. It was a lot of work but the ultimate donation that we were able to make to Cystic Fibrosis was all worth it. If you are interested in planning this event I would be able to provide you more details.
