Description of project We pay for the free skating times at the local Kinsmen Arena every year. So we decided to see if we can have a free adult only skate nearest to Valentines Day as possible. The city said yes! So we dimmed the lights, put on romantic music, and invited people out for an old fashioned sweetheart skate. A few members did some baking of cookies, tarts, cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries and made hot chocolate to give out to attendees. For the women we handed out red carnations. I also recovered some reusable grocery bags we had in storage and filled them with a few chocolates and information on our club.
Service Hours 1-20
Did you leverage this project as a way to recruit new members? Unsure
If you answered yes to the question above, please explain:
How was this project promoted in your community? We made cute posters and hung them out and around town, including the arenas in town. Also put it up on Facebook as an event, and the radio station did spots for us! I also put it in the "what's happening" section of our local paper.
What were some challenges you faced with this project, and how could your project be improved? If we do it next year, we will talk to the city earlier about getting the arena for Valentines Day. (we couldn't this time)
Otherwise I think the only thing that could of been improved is the weather - had a huge snow storm that day.
What was the approximate budget for this project? Less than $1,000
If the project was a fundraiser, what were the sources of revenue for this project? not a fundraiser
If this was a fundraiser, how much money was raised (minus expenses)? Not Applicable
What were the expenses for this project? We spent about $20 on chocolates and flowers. Everything else was donated.
Is there anything else you would like to share that would assist another club in duplicating this project in their community? Advertise and keep your fingers crossed for good weather!
