Disaster Relief

This fund was established to provide short-term immediate financial assistance to any location within Canada that is declared a disaster area and where a definite need for such assistance is shown to exist. More recently, the fund has helped those beyond our borders during times of crises.

You can make a general donation to this fund today.

May 2011
Slave Lake Fire
In Spring 2011, a fire in Slave Lake, Alberta, devastated the town including the homes of three of our Kinette club members. Kin Canada members can make donations to the National Disaster Fund or to the Kin Canada Foundation to help them recover from this disaster.

February 2010
$52,900 for Haiti earthquake relief
The donation to the Canadian Red Cross included $42,900 raised by Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin clubs and $10,000 from Kin Canada. In addition, the Canadian federal government matched the collective Kin Canada donation dollar for dollar.

January 2005
$48,000 for tsunami relief in Southeast Asia
Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin clubs made a $48,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross after a tsunami in the Indian Ocean ravaged 11 countries.

2002
$73,000 to the Hay West Project
The Hay West project brought hay from Central and Eastern Canada to western farmers whose fields were suffering from drought conditions. Kinsmen and Kinettes in Alberta also assisted with a benefit concert to raise funds for, and increase awareness of, the plight of western Canadian farmers.

August 2003
$50,000 and 30,000 lbs of beef for BC
Devastating fires ripped through British Columbia leaving many homeless or living in shelters. In less than a day, Kin pledged more than $50,000 and 30,000 pounds of beef to help feed firefighters and people living in temporary shelters.

2003
BBQ Canada to support Canadian beef industry
On Labour Day, Kin clubs and groups across the country hosted free barbecues to show the world that Canadian beef is safe to eat and that they support the Canadian beef industry. This one-day event set a new Guinness Book of World Records by serving beef products to more than 280,000 people.
