Opening Our Doors to Celebrate Volunteers

March 28, 2013
By Lauren MacDonald-Schlaht

As National Volunteer Week rapidly appraoches (April 21-27), it's hard not to think about the extraordinary amount of time Canadians dedicate to volunteering each year.

The most recent Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating revealed that Canadians spent over 2.1 billion hours volunteering in 2010. That's equivalent to almost 240,000 years!

Kin Canada ArtifactsTo celebrate the importance and accomplishments of Canadian volunteers, we at Kin Canada Headquarters, located in Cambridge, Ontario, are opening our doors on April 24th from 2pm-4pm. Our building is somewhat of a museum, with several artifacts we've collected throughout 93-year history of our clubs serving their communities' greatest needs.

As a volunteer-based Association, we can't help but feel proud to regularly hear about the service projects and fundraisers our clubs perform in their community each week. It's because of the hard work and dedication of our fellow Canadians that we want to recognize National Volunteer Week this year by opening our doors to our community.

Help us properly honour and celebrate volunteerism in Canada; share your volunteering stories below and make sure you come out to our Open House on April 24th.
