Description of project We were the lead in a joint venture with Municipal and Provincial government to create the first All inclusive Splash Pad in Nova Scotia.
We created a design that would allow access for kids of all ages and inclusive of any disability. The theme was to encourage full family participation. We also ensured that this would be an environmentally friendly project to construct and maintain.
Service Hours 100+
Did you leverage this project as a way to recruit new members? No
If you answered yes to the question above, please explain:
How was this project promoted in your community? We took on a full advertising campaign with billboards and a heavy social media push. Interviews were done in radio and print media. We also built a working rendition on a float for the community Canada Day Parade which won best float.
What were some challenges you faced with this project, and how could your project be improved? This project was a 9 year venture. Because the price tag was over $400k we needed the partnership of Municipal and Provincial governments. Now that the project is completed we still require a small portion of sponsorship from the community and its business partners. Because it was the first of its kind there were many issues in the creation of parts and proper installation. this project was a complete learning experience for all levels from Government, manufacture, installers, engineers and many others.
What was the approximate budget for this project? $15,000+
If the project was a fundraiser, what were the sources of revenue for this project?
If this was a fundraiser, how much money was raised (minus expenses)? Not Applicable
What were the expenses for this project? Total cost of the project came in at just over $400k.
The Kinsmen club of Sackville was responsible for $117k
The clubs actual expenses for the non construction portion of the project was under $3000
Is there anything else you would like to share that would assist another club in duplicating this project in their community? This project requires long term dedication with a full committee that covers many different aspects.
The commitment is also required of the community.
