Description of project Upon hearing that a church in Winnipeg was holding a workshop to teach people to crochet sleeping mats out of plarn (plastic yarn)we decided to check it out. No one was able to attend the workshop but we got the directions off the internet. One mat was made and taken to a general meeting and the club took it on as a project. One member of the club picks up plastic bags from the grocery store and delivers them to the Arris Centre (a workshop for the handicapped) where they are counted and taken to the town office. We got permission to use some of these bags for our mats. We met on several occasions to straighten the bags, cut off the handles and the bottoms and then cut them into strips. They are then linked together and 3 members used the biggest crochet hooks they could find and crocheted them into mats, approximately 6 feet long by 2 feet wide. They were then delivered to the church in Winnipeg for distribution.
Service Hours 51-100
