Description of project 2016 was our 17th year hosting this golf tournament to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada. (BCSC) At this point we have raised over $126,000.00. It is held the first Saturday of June each year. The golfers pay $100.00 ea. for 18 holes of golf, a cart, morning treats, lunch and full supper. Shotgun start at 12 noon, supper at 6. We have a full raffle table compliments of local business donations and a draw for a set of women's golf clubs and other prizes, also donated by local business. We also have hole sponsors to add to our fund raising. The main theme to our tournament is FUN, FUN, FUN, we have a lot of non golfers join us just for that fact, No pressure.....We have approx. 60 - 90 golfers every year.
Service Hours 100+
Did you leverage this project as a way to recruit new members? No
If you answered yes to the question above, please explain:
How was this project promoted in your community? Mostly word of mouth and returns from year to year. The businesses are contacted through our Kinettes with a letter of donation. Also online, Facebook etc.....
What were some challenges you faced with this project, and how could your project be improved? We have had many challenges over 17 years but I do believe we have it running pretty good at this point. Some years it was a little harder to get golfers than other years, but always seems to work out...
What was the approximate budget for this project? $1,000-$5,000
If the project was a fundraiser, what were the sources of revenue for this project? Our sources of revenue are from our golfers, raffles and draws. All donations are made directly to BCSC, we only take our 15% from the golfers after bills paid.
If this was a fundraiser, how much money was raised (minus expenses)? $5,000-$10,000
What were the expenses for this project? Golf Course bill for golfers, carts and supper.
Is there anything else you would like to share that would assist another club in duplicating this project in their community? Try to keep it as fun as possible. Make sure non golfers can join in the fun without intimidation. We have a costume prize, drive off hole with the Meaford Kin, chance to drive a dressed up golf cart for the day and each team has their picture taken and a copy given to them.
