Description of project Gift of Giving
Club goes into local Canadian Tire one evening during holiday season. We purchase $1500 of gift cards (150 x $10)
The preloaded cards are handed out to shoppers and they are asked to use the $10 towards purchasing a gift for a child at Christmas. All toys are collected that evening and donated to the local Salvation Army.
Service Hours 21-50
Did you leverage this project as a way to recruit new members? No
If you answered yes to the question above, please explain:
How was this project promoted in your community? Online, Local Canadian Tire store
What were some challenges you faced with this project, and how could your project be improved? Getting public to understand that the cards are free and loaded with money to use towards a gift for less fortunate
What was the approximate budget for this project? $1,000-$5,000
If the project was a fundraiser, what were the sources of revenue for this project?
If this was a fundraiser, how much money was raised (minus expenses)? Not Applicable
What were the expenses for this project? Gift Cards
Is there anything else you would like to share that would assist another club in duplicating this project in their community? Great way to involve public. Rather than writing cheque for $1500 to Salvation Army. Spend $1500 at Canadian Tire and collect near $2500 in toys as many people use the $10 towards often a gift of $15-$25
