Forty years ago a group of Kinsmen in Saskatchewan sat around a table at some point and came up with the idea of a province-wide telethon. “The Kinsmen Foundation, provides special needs equipment and access to medical assistance to Saskatchewan residents, groups and health foundations to improve quality of life and independence,” details the Foundation’s website.
"It was an incredible experience, being my first time," said Kyle. "You don't realize how much actually goes on behind the scenes. There's a lot that goes on, and there's a lot that happens to make it happen."
It's been a busy month for Kin and it marked the club's anniversary with Founder's Night. On Feb. 20, 1920 in Hamilton, Ont., Hal Rogers held the first Kinsmen meeting.
Following a request from both the Yorkton Kinsmen, and Kinette Clubs Yorkton, Council unanimously declared Kin Week for March 1-7 in the city.

The Kinsmen Club's motto is 'Serving the community's greatest need.' And the local Oakville club has been doing that for 60 years.
Volunteerism is the needle that weaves a community together; without it, connections unravel, parks, arenas and libraries don’t get built, and people live comparatively solitary lives.
That is the belief of Kim and Trish Connell, who were nominated as this week’s Pillars of the Community.

Kevin Twomey doesn’t do it for the recognition. In fact, when asked to talk about his latest achievement, the public relations officer with Fonthill and District Kinsmen instead lists off other club members he feels are more deserving. But it’s that spirit that earned the Pelham resident the recent designation as a Life Member of the Kinsmen — the highest honour one can achieve in the Kin Canada organization.
“In the past few years, on average, we helped between 200 and 300 families. We were able to give each of those families two weeks of groceries,” she said.
