The Kinsmen and Kinettes are now busily preparing for the annual Christmas for Needy Families project that the clubs conduct each year. Presents and a large grocery order will be provided by the clubs through the auspices of the provincial social services office. 

Botwood Kinsmen Participate in the Wishmaker Parade

This year the Botwood Kinsmen carried the banner proudly as the parade moved along, led by the Botwood Fire Truck. Along with the Kinsmen, the Boys and Girls Club and the Point of Bay/Philip’s Head Fire Department joined as first time walkers.

The Antigonish’s Kinsmen Bike, Run and Walk for Breakfast drew about 60 young and old to clamber over the closest thing Antigonish County has to a mountain, known as the Keppoch, on foot and on bicycle. Volunteers barbecued for the event that raised money that the Kinsmen will donate to school breakfast programs.

"Real fear kicks in - and you know they're not real zombies, but every one of them is playing the part," he said. "It was so cool," he said, recalling one linebacker-like zombie grunting at him and another scary-looking undead police officer. The five-kilometre run starts in Rick Hansen Park and follows the bike path through to Rambler Park. In between are plenty of challenges - including a rope wall, tires, tubes, a maze, and what's best described as a black box - not to mention all those roving undead, dressed in everything from pyjamas to banana and carrot costumes.
