The Kinsmen Club of Kingston has announced the recipients of proceeds raised from the 2014 Dream Home Lottery.
"Last year, we sold out and were able to do a number of donations. Our largest donation was $115,000 to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation," said Ryan Hanes, Kinsmen Club of Kingston representative, "$105,000 of which was directed to the (neonatal intensive care unit) and $10,000 to the cancer centre."
Jubilee Residences, which serves more than 200 seniors at its long-term care facilities, unveiled a new para-transit bus at Porteous Lodge. The bus cost $125,000 — $47,500 of which came from the Kinsmen.
It's been a busy month for Kin and it marked the club's anniversary with Founder's Night. On Feb. 20, 1920 in Hamilton, Ont., Hal Rogers held the first Kinsmen meeting.
A collaborative effort between the Kinsmen and Kinnette Clubs of Goderich and Clinton, funds raised from the auction are used to benefit minor sports organizations and teams, local charities and community betterment living up to the clubs' motto of "Serving the Community's Greatest Needs."
The Kinsmen Club of Cornwall donated $3,500 to the Friends of the Summerstown Trails (FOTST), for youth programs and upgrading equipment
Following a request from both the Yorkton Kinsmen, and Kinette Clubs Yorkton, Council unanimously declared Kin Week for March 1-7 in the city.
The 27th annual Cystic Fibrosis Bowl for Breath raised close to $8,000 for cystic fibrosis research and clinical care.

Regardless of age or skill level, hockey is a sport that can bring a community together for a good cause. And that was certainly the idea behind the 2nd Annual Nipawin Kinsmen Pond Hockey Classic, which occurred on February 21 at Pinedale Arena. The fundraiser raised money in support of the Kinsmen and Kinettes Telemiracle on March 6 and 7.
